How does installing double glazing into existing wooden windows work?

A double-glazed window uses two panes of glass, separated by a 10mm gap which is filled with air or an insulating gas (such as argon). This is also known collectively as an Insulating Glass Unit (IGU).
Different types of glass can be used in the IGU to provide additional benefits including safety, security, noise control and solar protection. Another key benefit of the IGU is the reduced formation of condensation on the glass.
The Thermawood Retro-fit system was designed in Dunedin by Graeme Clark, in response to common issues faced when installing traditional double-glazing systems in New Zealand homes. The system is now patented worldwide.
A big point of difference Thermawood has over traditional systems is our specially designed grand adapter. The grand adapter can be used in a number of configurations to fit any timber window joinery. It's engineered to allow the drainage of any water that might collect around the double glazing unit and encourage air to circulate, keeping your window frames dry and eliminating the 'mist' that can collect between the panes on traditional, non-Thermawood double glazing.
